Dr. Sherry is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the TRAction Project and is also currently serving as Professor of Immigrant, Refugee and Global Health at the City University of New York.

Dr. James Sherry, MD, PhD serves as Director of the USAID Translating Research to Action (TRAction) Project, overseeing multi-country implementation science collaborations, research programs, and evidence/data sharing efforts in some fifteen countries. Dr. Sherry has substantive technical experience in reproductive, maternal, child and adolescent health spanning some twenty-five low and middle income countries with extensive RMNCH policy, program and project design, implementation and evaluation experience – including multi-country health monitoring and mapping systems development – in immunization, child and adolescent health promotion programs; community based surveillance and disease control/eradication efforts, humanitarian emergencies, and the global HIV/AIDS response. He is a Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy at the City University of New York having previously served as Chief Science Officer at the US Department of State Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator (OGAC); Director for Program Development and Coordination and Senior Advisor to the Executive Director at UNAIDS; Senior Advisor to the Executive Director of the World Food Program; Vice President of the Global Health Council; Chief of Health and Senior Advisor for Program Development at UNICEF/HQ; Director for Biomedical Research and Technology Development in USAID/India; and Chief of Staff for U.S. Congressman Sander Levin. Dr. Jim Sherry is a licensed physician with doctorate degrees in medicine (University of Michigan), biochemistry (Carnegie-Mellon University) and clinical training in pediatrics (Children’s Hospital of Michigan).
