Kumudha has been involved with social and clinical research in reproductive, maternal, neonatal, child health and nutrition at the Population Council since March 2009.

Kumudha has a medical degree (MD) in Community Health from Christian Medical College in Vellore, India, with 20 years of experience in implementing programs for rural, tribal, and urban areas. Prior to joining the Council, she was an Additional Director of Population Foundation India, and she has worked as a medical officer in hospital and clinical settings for 10 years in poor areas focusing on maternal, neonatal and child health, leprosy, tuberculosis, and filariasis.  She has been working in close collaboration with local and national policy makers, officials of the Ministry of Health, and other development partners. She served as the Principal Investigator for a TRAction-funded project focused on recognition and care-seeking behaviors in India.  More information can be found here.
