The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women kicked off the 1st International Congress of "Human Rights and Pregnant Women." The event took place in Pau, France on November 25-27.
Sixteen speakers from 11 countries discussed obstetric violence and what legal tools exist or should be created to defend the rights of pregnant women. A citizen's day was devoted to the testimonies of the women themselves. The French branch of the international Obstetric Network also presented the results of the national survey conducted in 2015 throughout France.
The conference was an occasion to hear from different international stakeholders and legal experts on human rights in childbirth. It was also an opportunity to come together to denounce obstetric violence which violates the human rights of women.
