Indoor Air Pollution Implementation Research on Behavior Change Interventions to Improve the Acquisition and Correct Use of Improved Cookstoves

With the overall goal of generating widespread improvements in indoor air quality in developing countries with high burdens of related mortality (mainly child mortality from pneumonia but also deaths of women from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), the purpose of this solicitation is to fund implementation research that will develop, test and evaluate state-of-the-art behavior change interventions for the acquisition and/or appropriate use of improved cookstoves. Although behavior change is the focus of this solicitation, it is recognized that stove technologies and/or fuels play a critical role to improvements in indoor air quality. Therefore, the application should clearly describe how the behavioral research relates to the enabling products being used in the study areas, such as clean and efficient stoves and fuels.
